Reproduction in metal and wood, with a working simulated loading and firing mechanism.
The Sharps carbine, designed by Christian Sharps in 1848, was a breech-loading falling-block carbine which, besides taking a standard percussion cap, had a rather unusual priming system: a magazine of primer pellets that placed one on the nipple each time the trigger was pulled and the hammer fell, making it quicker to fire.
The carbine version of the Sharps was very popular with the cavalry of both the Union and the Confederacy, and tens of thousands of the Model 1859 were produced. Its falling-block action lent itself to conversion to the new metallic cartridges developed in the late 1860s, so many were used in the Indian Wars in the decades after the American Civil War (1861-1865).
Note: inert replicas, freely sold and owned in Italy: they do not fire, make no bang and cannot cause harm.
