THE STORY

The repeating rifle of the Civil War

Designed and introduced by Benjamin Tyler Henry in 1860, the Henry rifle was a 16-shot lever-action breech-loader in .44 rimfire. It was made from 1860 to 1866 by the New Haven Arms Company.

The Union adopted it in small numbers during the American Civil War, valuing its firepower, which exceeded that of the standard-issue carbine. It was the basis of the famous Winchester rifle of the Wild West.
