Made in Germany from 1931, it is known by its initials, from the German “Polizei Pistole Kurz”. It was used by the German armed forces during the Second World War.

Thanks to its double-action mechanism it could be carried with a round in the chamber more safely. Its compact, comfortable size, mild recoil and reliable mechanism made it popular throughout the 20th century, and it became a favourite of Western intelligence services.

It became famous thanks to the fictional character James Bond 007, who carries it in many of his films, fitting a silencer to the barrel when a quieter job is required.
