Sawn-off lupara or long-barrel double-barrel shotgun?
Denix makes two versions of the 12-gauge double-barrel shotgun. This is thesawn-off lupara, with shortened barrels and stock, 52.5 cm long and weighing 1,834 g, compact and striking in a display cabinet. If you prefer the version with long barrels and a full stock, see theWyatt Earp USA 1868 double-barrel shotgun, 89 cm, 2,636 g, the classic Wild West double-barrel shotgun.
Why it is called a lupara
The name comes from “lupo”, Italian for wolf. In Sicily the short-barrelled shotgun was the shepherds' weapon for defending their flocks from wolves, and from there the name lupara came to mean any sawn-off double-barrel shotgun with a break action.
